I got into post production through a FCP TV show. I was never properly taught Avid in film school. I entered the industry just as FCP was picking up steam. Yep, Avid's interface is old and quite unintuitive for any modern computer user. If they would just add that function to the timeline I would forgo the mixboard almost entirely. Now I always close the mixboard when I'm editing and try not to use it for adjusting volume any more - but still need it for 'apply to in/out'. What bothers me is the damn mixboard slows down my editing in the timeline because so much CPU/GPU time is taken up animating the goddamn little meters and sliders in the mixboard. Waveforms - I have it set to show only waveforms in selected areas, this is the only way I can use waveforms because otherwise it is too insanely slow and shitty. Perhaps you have too many sequences in the bin? Admittedly it does take stupid long when there a lot of sequences in a bin – but Avid's bin architecture is a strength and a weakness.ĭigital Cut - I haven't used this for years so I don't know. Quadruple click a sequence – nope, not a problem I've encountered.Ĭlosing a bin takes 10 seconds - maybe more like 5 on the high side. Just frustrated that I'm in an abusive relationship with Media Composer. Does anyone else find that clicking response time is absolutely fucking unacceptable? Like you have to quadruple-click a sequence for it to open? Closing a bin takes 10 seconds? The digital cut record button takes another 10 seconds? Then there's the loading of the waveform on the timeline -might as well take a coffee break because navigating the timeline while the waveform is loading is pretty much useless.Īm I the only one?! If not, why are we OK with this?! In Premiere or Final Cut, windows will actually respond immediately when you click them, sequences will open right away, clips will load, and if they don't at least they're able to tell you what background shit is necessary in order to open them.

Some are more powerful than others, but one common thing between them all is that the MC interface is shit. We've got many Macs here and I've used them all.
